Salary Range: $100,000.00-$110,000.00 Annually

Fielding Graduate University seeks a Director of Development to lead university development operations. Fielding’s headquarters are located in Santa Barbara, CA.

 

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the President, the Director of Development leads development at Fielding Graduate University. This work includes developing and executing all the elements of Fielding Graduate University’s annual fundraising plan; creating and executing a strategy for a sustained base of major donors; and overseeing development staff responsible for data entry and gift processing.  This work consists of creating development materials, overseeing the organization of special events, and other advancement and development work as determined in partnership with the President.

 

We are seeking a talented and hard-working individual who is passionate about higher education, especially our mission, which is to develop research that leads to social change and justice in our professions and communities.  As an institution that works nationally, we seek an individual who can build relationships with donors, alumni, foundations, corporations, and federal agencies that reflect a number of disciplines in the social sciences with a focus on psychology, educational leadership, organization development, change management, civic engagement, social and ecological justice, and other associated fields. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should possess a bachelor’s degree. A Master’s degree is preferred as well as evidence of experience in the social sciences. A minimum of 5 years’ of experience in development is required, with preference given to candidates that have previous experience of development in a higher education setting. Demonstrated excellence in project management is essential along with experience in generating development campaign strategies.  

 

The ideal candidate will possess a professional, collaborative, and upbeat approach to their work. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to prioritize and work under tight deadlines are essential to success in the role. Applicants should have previous experience researching and writing grant solicitations. Applicants should have advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and donor database applications. Proficiency with any of the following is highly desirable: Donor Perfect, Zoom, Ellucian (Datatel) Colleague, and ShoreTel phone systems. Candidates must be able to travel by plane, work weekends and alternative work hours as needed.
