California is said to be a four-season paradise, if the four seasons are fire, flood, mudslides and earthquakes. How do you raise money for your cause during a crisis? What's the right way to approach donors when they may be struggling or overwhelmed? What if your cause isn't obviously affected by the crisis? And what can you do in just one hour to prepare yourself, your organization and your colleagues for the next crisis?

Kathy Wertheim, CFRE
Kathy Wertheim, CFRE, learned about crisis fundraising while working for the American Red Cross National Headquarters, through fundraising in Washington, D.C. after September 11, 2001, and during two stock market crashes and three recessions. She has raised millions of dollars and taught fundraising to thousands of people in 22 U.S. states plus Asia and Latin America. She is an AFP Master Trainer, one of 242 in the world, and earned the CFRE designation, held by fewer than 3% of fundraising professionals. She's published articles read by more than 200,000 people, and has served on 12 nonprofit boards.
