Director of Advancement

Reports to: Executive Director

Scope of Position:  The Director of Advancement will Assist the Executive Director with managing the Trust's fund development program, and provide staff support to the Board's Development Committee.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administration and Support

Work closely with Executive Director to develop an annual fundraising plan.

Prepare and manage the Development Department budget.

Prepare agendas and support materials for Development Committee meetings. Facilitate reports to the committee on fundraising activities, internal facility rentals and gift shop.

Maintain current and accurate filing system and databases of foundation and donor communication, donations, committee projects, all mailing lists for members and donors. Provide lists and status updates of major donor prospects and active major donors under cultivation.

Assist Executive Director with identifying, cultivating, and soliciting prospective donors.

Assist with the creation of mail appeals.

Work with Executive Director and other staff or contractors to plan and implement fundraising, cultivation, and donor recognition events. Provide follow-up communication with event vendors and donors.

Membership

Under general direction of Executive Director, oversee the membership program, including recruitment and retention of members, and development of membership materials and benefits.

Design and send correspondence to members and prospects.

Design and produce promotional and incentive material for recruitment and recognition campaigns.

Coordinate and staff recruitment tables at Trust events.

Public relations

Develop electronic and hard copy files on Trust activities for use in press releases and other promotion materials.

Under direction of Executive Director, write, design and produce publicity material such as press releases and other promotional materials.

Maintain and update Trust website.  Responsible for e-news and online promotional materials.

Maintain the Trust's social media presence, including but not limited to:  Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram.

Management

Manage Facility Rentals Coordinator and ensure that rental processes, procedures are providing effective income for Trust.

Coordinate with Executive Director and Grant Writer to facilitate grants process, including submission and tracking of grant applications, prospect research, and correspondence with grantors.

Advise Visitor Services position in their capacity as gift shop manager on effective management of the retail function of the shop.

The Trust is a diverse organization with a small staff and many activities.  All staff members, including the Director of Advancement, must be versatile and cooperative in carrying out a variety of responsibilities and duties, as assigned by the Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

A bachelor's degree is required, MA in Nonprofit Administration or equivalent preferred.

Experience/Attributes:

Three to five years professional experience in the fundraising field

Fundraising database experience required, Blackbaud products preferred

Computer literate

Graphic design experience required

Experience in staff supervision and volunteer management

Excellent interpersonal skills

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Self-starter, with initiative and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Computer literate

Ability to work effectively with volunteers

Proven track record in individual or institutional fund raising

Creativity and originality in developing new strategies for annual giving and public relations for long-term accomplishments

Project management and budgetary planning skills

Must be available to work occasional nights, weekends, holidays varying shifts

Skill and affinity for public speaking

Start date: ASAP

Usual schedule:  to be determined, up to 40 hours per week
